Olga Brereton
I am a British artist from Devon.
I always felt a great desire to create and currently work from a countryside studio near Dartmoor.
I have been drawing and painting all my life and for many years I took private art lessons. I was also lucky enough to study art history at the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. I have also had a career as a corporate graphic designer and published two books as an illustrator.
I've always loved plants and, inspired by the beauty of Devon, I got certified as an RFS gardener. Now I can create not only on paper, but also with plants in gardens.

Olga Brereton is available for private bookings

Available most Tuesdays and some Thursdays from 10am until 1pm.
Private tutoring, history of art discussion club, garden planting schemes, plant watch.

I picked up the paint brush in May 2023 after a break of almost 20 years doing any art at all. I picked oils as my medium because I work full time and I love that I can stop and start my painting and not worry about it drying out too much! The painting I've attached is ALMOST complete. The canvas board is 20"x16". From a reference photo my husband took, it's a beautiful scene of the beach at Sidmouth in Devon, close to where we live. I learn something new with every painting I do. A lot of my work is collage based, usually using newspaper and saved or found commonplace materials. A friend was having a clear out so I rescued a pile of gardening and wildlife magazines. From these the Wyrdbyrd series emerged.

Brian ( Dad) is a well respected artist and has published his own books he also is a musician and has spent 50 years playing in bands throughout the Devon area. He was a pleasure to paint..as you can see he has an unusual look.

This painting is part of a collection I am working on called the Beautiful Project. The Beautiful Projects lifts up everyday people in our communities doing amazing things. People nominate people in their lives they think are beautiful. Then we sit down and have a discussion about why. They give me a bunch of pictures and I paint the beautiful person and write up a story about what I found that was beautiful about them as I painted. Vivi is beautiful because she never gives up. Title or Location: BLOOM
BLOOM is one of my largest pieces to date, consisting of layers of acrylic paint and marker to create intermingled layers of texture, colour and interest. My artwork as a whole aims to explore beauty and chaos as one and the same in a neurodivergent mind. I have ADHD and my art is a representation of what it's like to be inside my brain. Bright, busy, all at once, all the time. Through this I aim to foster a feeling of belonging and connectedness for people, largely neurodivergent people like me

I have a solo exhibit coming up in September at Gallery 114 in downtown Portland. I wanted to do a new body of work, and since I also like to garden I decided to do abstract florals. It's challenging trying something new, but I love a good challenge!

This was inspired by some of the Manayunk steps. There are so many and as a kid I had to use them occasionally to go to school. It was a work out even then!

Together Forever. The story behind this family portrait is quite sad. My friend Iris Costanilla commissioned me to paint a portrait of her family of 4. The sad part is, they never had a photograph of the 4 of them together. Her husband Bruce had frequently been away from home since he was a US citizen and was required to do so. While in the US, Bruce was diagnosed as being terminally ill with cancer and was unable to return to his family in the Philippines. After his death, Iris gave me a pho
