Speed Landscape Drawing and Painting

Speed Landscape Drawing and Painting

Saturday 25 January
Canal Banks - 11:30am - 2 Hours
Olga Brereton
The focus of this two-hour structured session is "speed" and "form", i.e. capturing the essence of a subject. You will be guided to complete some "warm-up" colour and drawing exercises and prepared for doing ink and watercolour-based painting in the session. You will learn how to quickly sketch and capture multiple subjects in the garden with ink and wash technique. You will be advised to keep things rather loose and time your drawing/painting.
You will have a chance to meet and greet like-minded people, choose your own subjects in the garden and be guided to complete the exercises, and artwork and have some takeaway homework with the learned technique. All levels and experiences are welcome.

ARTISTS
Olga Brereton
I am a British artist from Devon.
I always felt a great desire to create and currently work from a countryside studio near Dartmoor.
I have been drawing and painting all my life and for many years I took private art lessons. I was also lucky enough to study art history at the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. I have also had a career as a corporate graphic designer and published two books as an illustrator.
I've always loved plants and, inspired by the beauty of Devon, I got certified as an RFS gardener. Now I can create not only on paper, but also with plants in gardens.

Olga Brereton is available for private bookings

Available most Tuesdays and some Thursdays from 10am until 1pm.
Private tutoring, history of art discussion club, garden planting schemes, plant watch.

Title or Location: Morning stroll on Sidmouth beach
I picked up the paint brush in May 2023 after a break of almost 20 years doing any art at all. I picked oils as my medium because I work full time and I love that I can stop and start my painting and not worry about it drying out too much! The painting I've attached is ALMOST complete. The canvas board is 20"x16". From a reference photo my husband took, it's a beautiful scene of the beach at Sidmouth in Devon, close to where we live. I learn something new with every painting I do. A lot of my work is collage based, usually using newspaper and saved or found commonplace materials. A friend was having a clear out so I rescued a pile of gardening and wildlife magazines. From these the Wyrdbyrd series emerged.

Portrait of my Dad painted in his dining room after dinner on my 50th birthday. This was my first time painting a live sitter. Brian ( Dad) is a well respected artist and has published his own books he also is a musician and has spent 50 years playing in bands throughout the Devon area. He was a pleasure to paint..as you can see he has an unusual look.

For a long time I didnt think i was particularly creative or good at art but ive always loved the idea of being able to draw or paint. I started off doing paint by numbers during Covid but wanted to learn to paint my own work so recently I started teaching myself to paint using Acrylics. I particularly love trees and so painted this one using black and white to allow me to highlight portions of shadow in the branches. I've only been painting for about 6 or 7 weeks so this is a very early atte

18 x 20 Oil on CanvasAvailable: www.vickiewessonart.comI enjoyed experimenting with Acrylic's Inks for the background underpainting. Additional oil glazes were applied. With the direction of the Acrylic flow envisioned the portrait's name. Whispers of the Wind:"Lifted in quiet strength & grace. Her deep, soulful eyes gaze upward, conveying a sense of quiet reflection & resilience. The rich hues blend seamlessly, representing the connection between her inner world & the vast landscapes

Title or Location: Conrad V. Auchter
My spouse?s father passed away two years ago. My artistic mission is to memorialize loved ones so I began experimenting in a variety of mediums in order to capture Conrad?s essence at the twilight of his life. This photo is of my first completed attempt in oil pastel on heavy grade watercolor paper. The effect was striking but my wife wanted a larger and more artistic painting on which I?m currently working on. Once completed, I?d like to post my final painting for comparison and critique
