You will be guided to complete some "warm-up" colour and drawing exercises and prepared for doing ink and watercolour-based painting in the session. You will learn how to quickly sketch and capture multiple subjects in the garden with ink and wash technique. You will be advised to keep things rather loose and time your drawing/painting.
You will have a chance to meet and greet like-minded people, choose your own subjects in the garden and be guided to complete the exercises, and artwork and have some takeaway homework with the learned technique. All levels and experiences are welcome.

ARTISTS
Olga Brereton
I am a British artist from Devon.
I always felt a great desire to create and currently work from a countryside studio near Dartmoor.
I have been drawing and painting all my life and for many years I took private art lessons. I was also lucky enough to study art history at the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. I have also had a career as a corporate graphic designer and published two books as an illustrator.
I've always loved plants and, inspired by the beauty of Devon, I got certified as an RFS gardener. Now I can create not only on paper, but also with plants in gardens.

Olga Brereton is available for private bookings

Available most Tuesdays and some Thursdays from 10am until 1pm.
Private tutoring, history of art discussion club, garden planting schemes, plant watch.

Title or Location: Morning stroll on Sidmouth beach
I picked up the paint brush in May 2023 after a break of almost 20 years doing any art at all. I picked oils as my medium because I work full time and I love that I can stop and start my painting and not worry about it drying out too much! The painting I've attached is ALMOST complete. The canvas board is 20"x16". From a reference photo my husband took, it's a beautiful scene of the beach at Sidmouth in Devon, close to where we live. I learn something new with every painting I do. Title or Location: Wyrdbyrd 1
A lot of my work is collage based, usually using newspaper and saved or found commonplace materials. A friend was having a clear out so I rescued a pile of gardening and wildlife magazines. From these the Wyrdbyrd series emerged.

Portrait of my Dad painted in his dining room after dinner on my 50th birthday. This was my first time painting a live sitter. Brian ( Dad) is a well respected artist and has published his own books he also is a musician and has spent 50 years playing in bands throughout the Devon area. He was a pleasure to paint..as you can see he has an unusual look.

Title or Location: Smell the rain?
Oil sketch, 11?x14?. This is my first attempt with oils after a 38 year career as an exhibit designer. Started with quick turp washes, then built up some detail. I was going to continue, but I kind of like it the way it is. Anxious to start another, and having fun.

Title or Location: Wooden Wave
This piece is acrylic on wood. I used some scrap pieces I had cut from the end of a wooden board I was using. The actual wave and cliff are from where the knot in the board had separated. As soon as I saw it I knew what I was going to do with it. This is two pieces of wood, individually painted and then screwed together. I love upcycling these scraps.

Title or Location: A memorial drawing of George napping with Chris
I originally drew George for Chris a few years ago but after he passed more recently, Chris came to me with a photograph which he said meant a lot to him and asked if I could do a drawing of it. It was a bit of a challenge but I did the best I could with it and when I sent an image of my drawing to Chris he first just replied ?there are no words? but he then came back later with:?wish you had known him Alan and in a strange way it?s like you did. You portray my bond with him like no one else c
